Coach Linda Ryan wrote a blog post yesterday called “You Do NOT Need To Read This Blog…” She quoted Mark Sanborn and what he said at the Go-Giver Retreat:

“Don’t write the blog because others need to read it.
Write the blog because you need to write it.”

Now this really got me thinking about my own blogs and why I write posts for them. It’s funny because sometimes, I’ll spend hours looking for a subject with the right keywords that will get me tons of search traffic. Other times, I’ll just write because it feels good to get something off my chest.

And my most satisfying posts are the ones where I’m not worries about keywords at all. Or even being worried about what’s going to come out of writing the post. Just like all the other most fulfilling things in life, they are done from the core because that’s what we know we have to do to make our world a better place.

By following this advice, it will attract so many more people to your blog posts than any search engine can drive. Why? Because people will feel that you’re putting your soul into it. They will be able to sense it in the words that you use and the emotion in the sentences. Make your blog uniquely yours by writing it for you.

I’m very happy I found that post because I’ve been struggling lately on the why of writing blog posts, but now it’s back. It’s not because you need to read, but because I just need to write it!

Mentors are very important to your personal growth. You don’t necessarily need to personally be friends with a mentor to be able to learn from them. I’m lucky enough to have these mentors in my life that seem to always have the perfect information for me when I need it. If you don’t have a list of people that are helping you grow, then it’s something you need to do very soon.

Something you’ll find about the people on my list is that they are all extremely open, unique and true to their core.

Jason Moffatt

I first met Jason, aka JMo, in San Diego a few years ago at a JV Alert event. When we met, all we talked about was surfing the entire time. Jason has taught me so much more than just marketing. His lifestyle and the way that shares it with everyone has taught me a lot about enjoying the life that we have as internet marketing professionals.

The biggest thing that I’ve learned from JMo would be to just be yourself. People know when you’re not being yourself and it comes off as cheesy and not genuine. By being yourself, you’ll open up a lot more great opportunities in your life because you’ll attract more people to you.

Check out his site at JasonMoffatt.com

Ori Bengal

Good lord, where do I even start with Ori? He’s a character to say the least. Met him for the first time in person at the same JV Alert event in San Diego. Since then, we’ve become pretty good friends. He came down and stayed in Costa Rica with me a little over a year ago for about a month and taught me a ton in the process.

Ori is one of my top idea guys. He always has a unique way of looking at a problem and getting me to the point of finding a solution that’s perfect for the situation. It’s been nothing short of interesting knowing Ori and I feel privileged to have him as a friend.

Check out his site at CouchSurfingOri.com

Justin Brooke and Chaunna Brooke

Justin and Chaunna always have the perfect resources and specialized knowledge that helps me take things to whole new levels. Used to watch his “20 Minute Tackle” every Tuesday no matter what. In fact, one of my favorite books now, “The 12 Factors of Business Success” was actually given to me by Justin because I watched that show and won it from there.

I’ve got an entire bookmark folder of extremely useful tools and sites that Justin and Chaunna have shared with me over the years. Many of which I currently use and a few that I’m fully planning to incorporate into my business when the time is right.

Check out their blog at SiteFling.com

Randy Gage

I’ve learned a lot about network marketing and the prosperity mindset from Mr. Gage. First found Mr. Gage on Twitter where we started talking about college football. He’s a big University of Miami fan and I’m a huge Florida State University fan. Being that it’s a big rivalry, it was a natural conversation starter.

Since then, I’ve read a couple of his books and watched so many of his videos. He’s a true testimony to using social media to begin the conversation and then people will naturally look more into what it is you do.

See more from Randy Gage on his website

David King

We first met online a few years back when he helped me get the motivation and direction to getting back into internet marketing after my year long exodus into politics. Since then David has become a good friend and is now my roommate here in Costa Rica. He is what I’d call my motivator. Always pushing me to build a better business and get out of the “job” mentality that was instilled in me for so long.

Learn more about him at DavidBeKing.com

Foster Sayers

My roommate in college has been a true inspiration and mentor in my life. He’s always been there for me no matter what. When he brought me to Boston to help with the start up, he taught me more about business than anyone ever has.

He teaches me more through example than anything else. He’s now working on a start up that recently was accepted into Beta Spring up in Providence, Rhode Island. Watching his intense persistence has taught me a lot about what it takes to be successful.

I spent all of last year in pretty much the same spot. Nothing changed from month to month and life kinda just had me feeling stuck. It was one of those situations where I looked back at the year and wondered “what just happened to that year?”. And there’s no way that was going to happen again! It was time to do something about it and move on.

It’s tough to admit that something isn’t going as planned and that it’s time to cut ties and go separate ways. After spending about 8 months building up an online presence for a skating company I was a partner in, it was decided that things just weren’t ever going to work the way they were. I’m just glad that it was recognized sooner than later. Life is too short. It was unfortunate that there wasn’t a future for me in the skate board business, but it was also a blessing that it worked out the way it did.

That was when the decision was made to move back to Costa Rica and stay for a lot longer this time. My first stay here was one of the best/happiest periods of my life. Surfing is my equalizer. It’s the one thing in life that when I’m doing it, nothing else matters. My brain shuts off and the current moment is the only thing that exists. And that’s why I knew it needed to be more a part of my life.

Now one of my two biggest things getting my focus is building my surfing brand, Surf Bums. Best thing about it is using my knowledge of social media and online video marketing is making building this up really enjoyable. It’s a niche that I truly wake up in the morning craving to serve. Here’s the first video I made about a week ago…

Since moving back down here, I’ve met some of the coolest people on earth. Most people here are different and that’s a very good thing. Everyone is a character in their own right and it makes the dynamics here fun on a daily basis. And best of all, the differences in view point from all these different mindsets help tremendously with creativity, which is a corner stone of my business.

Moving on helped me find that “happy place” or my place of zen. It would have been easy to ignore the stuck feeling and just stayed in my current spot for longer just hoping things would change, but that would have led me to becoming old and only being a fraction satisfied with life. That’s just not what I envision life being all about. I’m urging you now that if you feel stuck and don’t see the avenue to grow in life, then move on and create a drastic change in your life to move towards what will make you truly happy and congruent with your core being. When you can match that core being with the proper external influences, you’ll feel a plethora of good feelings that will lead you to true bliss!

Do you see what I see? At the end of the tweet, there is an #ad hashtag. Do you know what that means? She was paid to put that tweet on her wall. That’s right, she probably doesn’t even know what the Federal Reserve is or does.

She uses a service called Sponsored Tweets that allows you to charge a base price per tweet. In Lindsay’s case, you pay $3,500 and she’ll say pretty much whatever you want to her 2 million followers. $11,000 and you can get 50cent to plug you on his Twitter feed.

Reason why I’m writing this is because some big name “media” profiles have been buzzing about this for days. They need to do a little more research before they make her out to be some hero for “speaking up”.

I first experienced Tamarindo surfing in early June 2010 when I came to Costa Rica with my family as a celebration for my sister’s graduation. It was the best vacation I’ve ever taken. And that’s saying a lot.

The waves are consistently here every day. The best thing is that when you come to Tamarindo, surfing is all around you. This entire community is a little surf village. It all revolves around Tamarindo surfing.

Coming on a Tamarindo surfing trip is cool because there are so many breaks right around the area. You got Playa Grande, Avellanes, Negra, Langosta and tons of secret breaks within minutes of the area. It’s a treasure chest of great surf breaks.

Here’s a Tamarindo surfing video I took with my Kodak Playsport in mid August of some Tamarindo surfing. There are always a lot of people surfing in Tamarindo and they always have so much fun.

I have fun just sitting on the shore and watching most the time. Just being there and experiencing first hand all the joy brought to people from Tamarindo surfing makes me so happy.

If you’d like to see more videos that I make here is my Tamarindo Surfing YouTube Channel. And I’ve also got a Costa Rica Surfing YouTube channel I’m building up.

And if you love surfing as much as I do, check out this surf club I’m working on.
