This blog comment link building strategy was put together through some research and testing that I have done over the last few months. If you use this strategy, you will see better results in your SEO efforts, your bounce rate and overall readership retention.
The strategy is actually quite simple.
My blog comment link building strategy is:
- Find related blogs with decent page rank and do follow tags.
- Leave very helpful and worthwhile comments.
- Make the URL back to a specific post or page
This is very important for SEO purposes. Finding related blogs is important because one link from a related site is worth more to the search engines than an unrelated site. Search engines are smart and know the difference. Plus, the possible traffic from the site commented on is much more valuable from a related site. The goal is targeted traffic.
The do follow tags are important because they will pass some of the page rank on to your site or blog, which is very helpful for SEO purposes.
My favorite tool for this step that saves me a butt load of time is Blog Comment Demon (Check out this Blog Comment Demon Review to learn more about it). This piece of software is without a doubt one of my favorite tools I have ever bought.
This important because it gives you the opportunity to be viewed as an expert or authority and increases the likelihood that readers will read your comment and want to know more about you and your site. If you are going to spend the time to read the article and comment, you may as well make the comment worth reading and add value to the post.
This is the biggest step in the blog comment link strategy that so many people over look and don’t do. This is important for all sorts of reasons.
First, it directs incoming traffic from the comment to a very related, specific post of yours that they will probably have a higher likelihood of reading and enjoying. This will dramatically increase your bounce rates and make it more likely to get the new reader to look around.
Secondly, it improves your SEO because it looks more natural to the search engines and it builds up your more long tail keyword posts. By getting your posts ranked high, it builds your credibility with the search engines and will help your homepage rank better.
That’s it
It is as simple as that. If you follow those three steps in your blog comment link strategy, you will get better results from your blog posts.

Great blog post! This comment is valuable because I’m demonstrating how to use the technique you mentioned. Thanks for the traffic.
Link unrelated.

Great to meet you the other night.

Thanks Russell. It is a powerful strategy that has helped me get some great incoming links. Hope it helps you!
Your posts are fantastic, Brendan.
Your sentiments here are pretty much what i have been following since i started blogging. I could not figure out why so many people thought just stopping and saying two or three words, gave any value. So even before i read any information about it i was already giving thought out quotes, which i hoped actually provided additional information or added to what i thought were great posts.
I know that whenever i am putting some efforts into commenting in this way i do get increased traffic. It is not all directly related to the comment, but can often be a side effect.
Exactly, Joel. Comments are great way to reach someone else’s audience and get them to visit your site/blog. It gives you the opportunity to be an authority.
And I feel the same way about those 3 or 4 word general responses. They don’t help as much because people just glance over them and give no regard to them. If you are going to take the time to write a comment, why not make it worth reading.

These are valuable tips and I also wanted to add that if most of your commentators are bloggers, it would be great that they’ll be able to showcase their latest post via CommentLuv plugin which I’m sure your readers will love.
I actually added CommentLuv because of this comment. Thanks for the tip buddy.
This is really amazing stuff!
How do you keep this coming?
The helpful comment is definite worth taking time on writing because then you have the ability to get lots of clicks back to your site.

This is a good method to bring quality links to your site but keep in mind that you must not abuse it..
How true! Abusing methods like this will only result in getting put on the spam lists. That's why the key thing with this method is to provide at least a little value in the comment and add to the conversation. Thank you very much for visiting my blog and leaving a comment.
And it's the clicks that are important. The link is great, but a visitor is the real end goal here. Thanks for the comment Mikkel!
I've been commenting to relevant sites nofollow or dofollow. Nofollow are still consider as part of your backlinks so i still use them as long as they are related. Dofollow tags does add to your page rank and that is good though you can't find a lot of sites with dofollow tags as they thought that if they follow they will just share their PR to others. Selfish but that's reality. So i just hope that SEs will not consider those tags for their algorithm.
If the blog comment field uses the “no follow” attribute, it does NOT pass SEO credit. Of course, many people who have commented here are in denial. And many blogs do not use the “no follow” attribute.
In general, leaving good comments on other blogs is a good practice and should be done. Sometimes, it'll pass SEO credit. Sometimes it won't. But, you should do it anyways.
