All About Me: Brendan Wenzel
As you know, my name is Brendan Wenzel. Born and raised in Jacksonville, FL, I graduated from THE Florida State University (Go Noles!) with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science in 2007. But more than the degree attained, it was the experiences and relationships that were built throughout college that made the time there worth every second.
I’ve been dabbling in Internet marketing since my senior year of high school in 2002. All throughout college, I used the internet to make money by selling infoproducts, wholesale products and online gaming assets on eBay. It was a great side income, but it was all temporary.
In the Spring of 2008, my look at internet marketing was completely changed when I started learning about SEO and got involved with a company that sells solar energy through independent distributors like an MLM company.
In the fall of 2008, I thought I wanted to work on campaigns. So I packed up everything and drove nearly 3,000 miles across the country to San Diego to work as a campaigner. This experience changed my life. Taught me many valuable lessons that I’m not sure I would’ve learned otherwise.
After that campaign, I knew it was time to buckle down and really get my online business going. If I was going to work hard, it was going to be for myself. In April of 2009, my dream of having a successful online business came to fruition and I can attribute that to one thing, attending a business seminar in Orlando. The people there showed me how to monetize my current skills immediately.
And Brendan Wenzel, the web designer and consultant was born. It took a lot of guts, but in June 2009, I was on my way to California again. I couch surfed in California for about 5 months while I built up my company. This was probably the toughest period of my life. Was dead broke most of the time and was literally living day to day. Some days, I was eating bread and potatoes because that’s all I could afford. But during that time, I learned a lot about myself and a lot about my business.
In October 2009, my college roommate and best friend was running a start up company in Boston, MA when he saw what I had learned and asked me to join him in Boston. So I again packed up my stuff and was off on another cross country move.
Boston was different than anything I’ve ever experienced in my life. The big city changed me in ways that I can’t even describe. Working with a start up company also taught me a lot about how business is ran in the “real world”. And gave me great insight towards my own business.
In late July, I decided to part ways with the start up and focus on my own business and my dream of traveling. That dream led me to move to Tamarindo, Costa Rica, where I am now. Surfing has always been a big part of my life and now I’m at the mecca of surfing. Here is a quote that describes my feelings perfectly:
“Sometimes in the morning, when it’s a good surf, I go out there, and I don’t feel like it’s a bad world.”
